My journey to become a midwife has been one that took me from one end of the spectrum to another, allowing me to see all different facets of the birth world.
Before becoming a midwife, I worked as a hospital and office nurse for over 17 years, witnessing and caring for women in that capacity. Several years ago, after realizing the huge benefit for women to have continuous support during labor, my partners and I started Dallas Birth Doulas. For 9 years, I supported women as their doula in hospitals, birth centers, and in homes all throughout the DFW- metroplex. I absolutely loved educating and supporting families during the labor process. During those years as a doula, I realized that the solid relationships that I had built with the area physicians, midwives, and nurses would help to solidify my decision to later become a licensed midwife.
Throughout my midwifery apprenticeship, I gained knowledge and skill from several area midwives in the community, working both at birth centers and at home births. Learning from so many different wise women before me, helped me to form my own style of care as a midwife.
My goal as a midwife has been to provide personalized, guided, evidence-based care and to help ensure that women feel supported and safe. I love supporting women from all backgrounds and would love to someday work as a midwife in the mission field. I currently serve as a homebirth midwife and I also have birth center privileges at East Dallas Birth and Wellness Center.
My husband, Aaron, and I have three children of her own, ranging in ages 13-21.
In my spare time, I love working out and going to hot yoga. I also love to travel with my family, catch local concerts with my husband and listen to geeky podcasts.
