My journey in supporting families and babies began with an undergraduate degree in psychology with a focus in early childhood development from California Baptist University. In my last semester of college my husband and I found out we were expecting a baby boy. After experiencing a less than empowering hospital birth (with a beach view, might I add), I became interested in supporting families as a professional birth support. My experience fueled my passion for low intervention birth and I began serving women as a Certified Birth Doula and a lactation counselor. Along with my partners we founded Dallas Birth Doulas and began building relationships with the local midwives, OB’s, and hospitals as we supported families in every environment and setting. My experience as a doula created an ability to connect with women and their specific physical, spiritual, and emotional needs. I feel my time as a doula allows me to feel comfortable in any setting and feel comfortable supporting woman no matter the circumstance. I also feel that my hospital experience allowed me to see more high risk situations and gives me broader experience in handling complications.
I am able to connect with women both in the hospital setting and at home, as well as medicated and un-medicated. I have attended 400+ births, which gives me an extensive overview of the needs and desires of laboring women. I completed my Certified Professional Midwifery training through NARM along with a robust apprenticeship including everything from a busy birth center to a small home birth practice. I believe in taking a smaller client load in order to give more focused care. My midwifery practice is concierge and direct care. I currently offer home birth or have privileges at East Dallas Birth and Wellness Center or Birth and Wellness Center of Arlington. I hold the belief that with the right support and information you can have a positive and empowering birth experience.
When I am not catching babies, I spend my time with my 2 active little boys and husband where I live, in the heart of Oak Cliff. My husband is a professional photographer and aordained minister at Fellowship Church. On any given weekend you can find us visiting one of our local coffee shops or taking photos of our kids.
